Following is the official reply from Mary Kamerzell to the complaint filed by the CFA regarding the proposed bus depot. Her reply does not bode well for a satisfactory resolution, and I encourage everyone to keep pressure on the school board, and once again to ask your friends and neighbors who live in the district to voice a complaint to the members of the CFSD school board, specifically the way this project has been handled (and continues to be handled) by the district administration, and requesting a collaborative rethink of this project that includes members from the community.

Remember, the district continues to refer to this as a "renovation project" while it has jumped in cost from an estimated ~400,000 (which we voted on) to ~$1,000,000 (today) and that it uses none of the existing land or facilities currently occupied by the district bus facilities. This is not a renovation. This is an entirely new facility for bus dispatch and maintenance.

*Letter from Mary Kamerzell*

October 28, 2010

Mr. T. William Pew III
Tucson, AZ 85718

Dear Mr. Pew,

In response to your October 11 complaint about our proposed bus yard renovation project, I do not support starting a new planning process with a community-based committee.

As you know, we have stepped back from the project to consider issues raised by residential neighbors and the Catalina Foothills Association. We are now in the middle of considering alternative design plans.

I am optimistic that we will propose a plan to our Catalina Foothills School District (CFSD) Governing Board that will mitigate several of the concerns raised at individual and group meetings of interested citizens. At the same time, it will support our school district's commitment to provide an efficient and effective student transportation system serving more than two thousand families of school age children in our CFSD community.

Sincerely,

Mary Kamerzell, Superintendent
